The Importance of Tracking Systems in Courier Services

If you are planning on relocating to a new house, what are the few things you would want in the new place? You would surely want a safe location, accessibility to stores, a kitchen for your needs, the perfect rooms and much more. These aspects are the bare minimum, aren’t they? Similarly, when you look for a courier company to have your items delivered, what are the bare minimum aspects that you would look for? We say tracking options would be the first thing on your list. Are we right?

What is a Tracking System?

A tracking system is nothing but the access for a customer to track his/her package that is to be delivered through a courier company.

Let us understand this with an example.

When you plan to have a package delivered either to another person or if you own a business and choose to deliver home-delivery products, what would be your choice? A company that provides tracking systems means after you have sent the package, you need to have an AWB number or consignment number that allows live tracking of where the package is. Just note that AWB’s full form is Air Waybill.

Typically, after the package has been sent, you can enter the tracking number on the courier company’s browser and receive live updates on where the package is, and when it would reach the destination.

Why is a Tracking System Important for a Courier Service Provider?

A tracking system is one of the most important aspects for every courier company, and this is why:

a) The Customer Knows Where His Parcel is: One of the most important reasons why every courier service company needs a tracking system is so the customer is well aware of where the parcel is at the moment and when it would exactly reach him. It could be hard at times for the customer to stay home and wait for the parcel. Instead, he could leave and come back if he knew the parcel would take some more time. Moreover, there are situations where a customer would be aggravated or frustrated when there are delays in the delivery of his parcel. Now, delivery delays are quite common and, most times, unavoidable. The customer does not know this. All he thinks is that there is a mistake on the delivery company. When there is a live tracking system present with the company, the customer knows ahead of time when there is a delay and, in most cases, why it is happening. This lowers his early delivery expectations and, eventually, his anger when there are delays.

b) The Supply Chain is Transparent: Any courier company has a long supply chain, wouldn’t you agree? Of course, it does. It starts with picking up the parcel, storing it, sending it to a different location, storing it again, and finally delivering it to the destination. This is a hard process when it is not transparent. How do we make it transparent, though? Through a live tracking system. When there is a tracking system, the entire supply chain knows about the parcel, where it is, and when it has to reach a certain point of delivery. This reduces overall disputes and contributes to a faster and more effective supply chain.

c) The Company’s Reputation is Enhanced: One of the most important reasons why a company needs a live tracking system is that the company would have an enhanced overall reputation internally and externally. This contributes to revenue, income, and more fame. We could also say it is a form of unpaid promotion to the courier service company.

Conclusion

Whether it is a courier pickup and delivery services, or an instant delivery company – a tracking system is always a must!

Well, what are you doing right now? We are pretty sure that you are looking for courier companies with tracking systems. Now that you know just how important tracking systems for a courier company are, the courier companies that are out there, too, know its importance, so let’s wait and watch for all courier companies, the old and the new, to begin implementing a robust tracking system within their protocol of procedure.
